Things That Make Me Laugh

I know its hard to imagine, but sometimes in my chaotic life as a surgery resident/parent/wife things don’t go quite as planned.  Take for example my trip to chipotle the other day.  If there is anyone out there in the world who doesn’t know what chipotle is- it is time to come our of your shell and try this amazing Mexican style fast food.  They have guacamole that is to DIE for, and the rest of the menu is pretty darn tasty too.  SO anyway- at the request of my mom (who had surgery last week) I went to chipotle in quest of dinner.  I started down the line, and when I got to the place where the guac is supposed to be displayed- there was nothing!  Oh no!!  But no worries the guy behind the counter says- they are making more guacamole in the back.  It will be ready in 5-10 minutes.  Whew!  OK- I will wait.  After about 15 minutes, no yummy green stuff has been presented- so I ask the person in front.  He disappears into the back- and after a minute or two, he reappears, shaking his head.  Sorry maim, it’s going to be another few minutes, he claims, without any explanation for the delay.  Well, I rationalize, I have already waited around- I guess I shouldn’t give up at this point…

5 Minutes…10 minutes…finally 15 minutes later the manager appears holding a small container of guacamole and a very un-ripe avocado with a sticker on it from publix (the grocery store that is directly behind the restaurant).  Here you go maim, he says.  We ran out of avocado, so we sent someone out to get new ones.  They weren’t very ripe- but we did out best.  UGH.  I tried to be nice.  but seriously- why didn’t they just tell me that they were out of avocados from the start?!  At this point- I had waited around for 30 minutes for some guacamole made with un-ripe avocados.  All I could do is laugh.  Haven’t I had this sort of a scene before at a restaurant?  And sadly, it involved avocados.  The worst part of the story is that sitting in the car were 2 perfectly ripe avocados that I had brought from home to take out to my mom’s house.  How pathetic is that??

So anyway- here is a list of other things that have happened in the past week or so that make me laugh…because if I didn’t laugh, I think I would cry!

9. When we are out at a restaurant and Dave decides to go through the body parts with Bryson.  For some reason, we never get past “nose” (see previous post)

8. When Bryson decides he doesn’t want to eat any more oatmeal- and flings his spoon at me- and gooey oatmeal/applesauce mixture lands square between my eyes.

7. When you walk in to the baby’s room and discover that during his nap, he has stripped and <gasp> is one velcro away from having his poopy diaper off.  I don’t even want to think about that mess.

6. When you accidentally mix hot chocolate and chai mix together.  Not a tasty combination

5. When I have a patient show up in urology clinic and the first thing he says to me is that he’s glad I have small hands because he wants a prostate exam and some viagra.  Ummmm, yeah… nervous laugh.  I love my job.

4. When Bryson decides to unload everything in the kitchen cabinets.

3. When you discover a dirty sippy cup that a certain little person (who is about 3 feet tall) hid in the kitchen cabinets.  Its especially great with it has enough mold that you have grown out your own supply of penicillin.

2. When I catch Bryson walking around waving the toilet brush above his head like a magic wand (EEEEEEWWW!!)

1. When Bryson walks by with my purse around his neck and waves bye-bye to me.

oh yea…you forgot the part about Dave waiting in the car running through all his routine to keep Bryson entertained and Bryson soaking all the way through his diaper to his clothes while you are waiting for the guac. All of this to bring me what I wanted. Thanks guys. I love you.

  3. [...] Coming out of the closet Posted August 21, 2008 Filed under: Baby Talk | Admittedly, I found it funny when Bryson paraded around the house with my purse.  In fact- I might have even encouraged it a bit.  Remember this picture??  [...]
